Things to do before we leave for vacation

Posted in Crazy family, Not necessarily a waste of time but pretty close at 4:30 am by Missy

Update: It’s 4:30 in the morning and I can’t sleep. So much for #1 and #31. The funny thing is my lack of sleeping has nothing to do with 1. Angel being up, 2. me having to pee or 3. me worrying about things I need to do for our vacation. It does have to do with me worrying. Now is the time where you say, “Missy read Matthew 6″. And check out a recent blog from Beth Moore at Living Proof that I just emailed to a bunch of friends. Guess I’m not following my own advice.

Well anyway, Hubby has had problem after problem with his back and knees and shoulders and now his feet. He’s had about 100 surgeries and it’s almost every day that there’s a new pain. He’s tried everything, to no avail. Yesterday he went to a podiatrist because lately his feet has been bothering him so much he can hardly walk. Dr thought it was a little concerning that he’s had to many problems at his young age. He gave him some exercises and drugs to take but also decided to run a bunch of blood work. He’s first thought is rheumatoid arthritis but he also said he’s looking for some other things.

So now I’ve spent the last hour reading the web on rheumatoid arthritis and hello! When will I learn to not read anything on the web? I just need to release this to the Lord and not worry and so that’s what I’ll try to do. We appreciate your prayers though and especially for this week that Hubby will be able to have an enjoyable time and not be in too much pain.

I know this probably should have been a separate post but I had to update my “to do” list. We’re making progress!

Update: Goodness, do babies really need alot or is it just me being anal? I think Belle’s going to end up with at least three bags. Poor child, I’m turning her into a clothes horse already. And will someone please invent a portable diaper genie? What am I suppose to do with stinky diapers? Does anyone have any good ideas? If you do invent a portable diaper genie remember that you heard it from me first! Off to clean the fridge!

1. Sleep – ha ha ha ha ha, that’s funny!
2. Clean our 3 2 bathrooms – ick.
3. Do a few last minute loads of laundry.
4. Clean out the fridge – ick ick!
5. Make a list for Ryan and Barbara, our friends who are house/dog sitting.
6. Buy snacks, formula, baby food, bug spray, dog food and whatever else I find at the store that I think we might need because for goodness sakes I’m sure there are no stores anywhere else in the world.
7. Sweep and mop.
8. Dust.
9. Vaccuum.
10. Finish cleaning out the garage – so so close.
11. Pay the bills.
12. Try to explain to the dogs why they have to stay home.
13. Try to explain to Hubby why I need a very large suitcase – I say I’m eating for two, can I say I’m packing for two? :-)
14. Speaking of packing… pack my stuff, Belle’s stuff and Hubby’s stuff (yes, I’m an idiot and I pack my for my husband…pick your battles).
15. Go through Hubby’s stuff and make sure I’m not forgetting anything.
16. Check with Princess and make sure she has everything.
17. Buy a book.
18. Buy a book on cd.
19. Do one last load of dishes.
20. Let Hubby’s family know we have friends house sitting so they don’t stop by to check on the dogs and freak out.
21. Double check all the bags, make sure we aren’t forgetting anything.
22. Pack the camera, video camera and battery chargers for both.
23. Pack laptop…oh no, I’m not leaving you behind :-)
24. Pack games and other stuff that we probably won’t play.
25. Explain to husband why he has to stay home now because I bought so much snack food there’s no room for him.
26. Clean the oven. I didn’t get this done and now I don’t think there’s time. I’ll wipe it out real good but it won’t get cleaned like I’d hoped it would. Pray for no fires! :-)
27. Explain to my blog friends why I need to clean the oven…. it’s really gross and if our friends use it when they house sit the house will probably burn down.
28. Buy gas for the grill.
29. Brush the dogs.
30. Wonder when I’m going to stop thinking of things to do.
31. Did I say sleep? Sleep…I hope to sleep in the next few days. Oh well, I guess that’s what vacation is for, right!

I pack for my hubby, too…it must have been some hidden clause in the wedding vows that we both somehow missed??? ;) Glad you’re taking “us” along on your trip with you!!

  2. have a good trip. hope you get more of your list done!

I do all the packing around here too! As for the dusting and sweeping…………good grief, girl…let the perfection go. (I say this lovingly!) No one is going to care if your stuff needs dusted. I promise. I do understand the need to vacuum – it’s a dog thing! Here’s a few ideas to make it easier – you keep saying what a great, responsible girl Princess is. Let her pack for herself, without you going through it. If she forgets something, it’s her issue, not yours. She can probably pack games and brush the dogs, too!

I understand the pre-trip frantic packing, but here’s a little secret – I didn’t get everything done I wanted to before we went to Ethiopia. We all survived. You will too.

    Blessings, my friend.

  4. When we go on trips I just use the little bags for ice to wrap the diaper in and if it gets too stinky I take the garbage in our room out myself! I bet that isn’t the best of suggestions just what I do :)
