Woo hoo, I’m officially in my second trimester. I know some books say 11 weeks and some say 12 but I know 13 is for sure for sure.
We had an ob appointment on Wednesday. And we heard Little Pip’s heartbeat! I was so stressed we wouldn’t hear it and then the doctor would tell me something was wrong so it was SUCH a relief. At first he couldn’t find it because he said my uterus is tipped backwards. But mr Dr persevered. “woosh, woosh, woosh” went Little Pip’s heartbeat. And then a loud thud! He kicked. It was so cool! I think the Dr was more excited than we were!
Dr also told me I’ve gained 2 pounds. I guess I lost 8 during the first two months when I was sick. So now I’ve gained that all back plus 2 pounds. I told him my scale says I haven’t gained any and he said, “well we go by our scale”. Well, ok! And then he said, “You’ll probably gain about 40 pounds.” That was when I fainted.
Just kidding. But I do believe the room started to spin. 40? As in forty? As in four zero? Yikes. Is that really necessary? I thought it wasn’t necessary to gain that much anymore. Plus I’m already at least 10 overweight so shouldn’t that count for something? Maybe I’ll be happy as a clam to gain 40 pounds but to hear him say that kind of freaked me out.
It kinda goes along with morning sickness. During those 10 years when I couldn’t conceive I’d say things like “I’ll never complain if I had morning sickness.” And I’m sure I thought, “I’d love to gain 40 pounds.” So I’m not saying this because I’m not very very very grateful to be pregnant, it just doesn’t sound so fun right now. I guess the losing the 40 pounds is what doesn’t sound so fun.
Anyway, enough about that. I’ve been feeling really good. I think I’ve got my groove back. I’m only a little nauseous now and it’s only when I don’t eat when I’m suppose to. It’s kinda nice, it’s like my body has an alarm clock… hello you need to eat now! So I have a snack and I feel better. I have thrown up a few more times, which is weird but nothing too major. I have alot more energy than the past 3 months. I even helped Hubby clean out the garage the other day. It feels so good to not feel so exhausted all the time! One thing I have been struggling with is the constipation. Ick! And I have alot of abdominal pain – like double over pain. Dr thinks it’s related to the constipation, I’m not so sure. He gave me some stool softeners but so far it hasn’t helped the pain. It’s the same pain I had before I got pregnant, like with the endometriosis so I’m not sure what it is.
No real way to transition to a different topic from that is there.
I’m starting to wear a few maternity clothes. Although they are a little big I just feel better wearing them. Last week I could still fit into all my regular pants..although a few of them were pretty tight. Well the night we left for vacation I tried them all on and only 3 pairs still fit! Yikes! I think mr Dr was right, I have gained some weight. I think it’s just in my tummy though because my pants fit everywhere else, I just can’t zip them or button them.
Well, need to go. Angel’s waking up and there’s not much more to report! Picture coming up next week!

GLad to hear you’re feeling better. I remember being so glad to be out from under that “cloud” of sleepiness and nausea. My nausea started to switch to late evening and then fade away by about the end of the 3rd month. I know what you mean about wearing the maternity clothes….it’s so exciting to finally get into them, but then a little disappointing b/c they don’t fit like you want them to. Motherhood makes (or made–this has been 4 years now) jeans that have a drawstring in the waist so you can make the pants fit more snugly while you’re in the early stages. I also used a rubber band on my “regular” jeans–just loop it through the button hole and wrap it around the button and you can stretch your reg jeans for a few more weeks. You’ll have to make sure your shirts cover though.
I don’t know…they are making maternity clothes so differently now. My boys are 6 and almost 4–so it’s not been that long, but the styles are changing to fast. I tried to get rid of some of my mat clothes to a resale store
Oh well.
and they told me they were a little “dated”. They’re only 6 years old!
I found your blog through a comment from Big Mama’s blog and was captivated by your story of Angel. God is so amazing. She is such a cutie!!
Oh, so glad you are feeling a bit better and always getting farther along! So very exciting!
About that 40 lbs – you don’t have to gain that much. You can eat healthy stuff, and you’ll probably gain just a bit less…but so much of it will come off easily, especially if you nurse.
About the constipation – yeah, that’s no fun. Have you tried increasing the amount of fiber that you are eating? Kashi makes a couple cereals that are good and high in fiber, fruit is in season this time of year, try apricot nectar. Did you doc tell you to try to drink more? That is always the thing that gets me; I just don’t drink as much as my body thinks it needs. ug!
Oh, so excited for you!!! I’ll stop it with the unsolicited advice though. (sorry!) Gonna go read your next post!
Yeah, yeah! Glad everything is going well!
I gained 40 pounds – I really didn’t want to, but it happened! And I was so disappointed when I got home from the hospital and found myself only 9 pounds lighter. Baby was 7 1/2 lbs alone, so how could it be??
But it is all off now – a year later. So don’t stress, give yourself time, and it’ll all be worth it . . .
