Family Vacation 2008 Part 1
Even though we’re not home yet I thought I’d try to start posting about our vacation. But now I can’t find my cord to transfer my pictures to the computer so I’m sorry, today you don’t get pictures. Just me rambling.
Thursday, June 5th
I got off work at noon to finish packing and getting everything ready. We were expecting some pretty bad storms to hit our area and so Hubby was hoping to get out of work early. But then at about 2:00 pm he remembered that Princess had an appointment for her senior pictures at 5:00 pm. Not to actually take them, just to get information. It turned out to be ok though because we would have had to wait out the storm anyway.
I think it was about 6:30 that we finally got on the road. We’re in two vehicles because as you already know Hubby is going to Jeep camp. Well, we can’t fit all of us and all our stuff in the Jeep so we also had to take the van. I was pretty bummed about that because that’s where you make alot of the great memories…along the way, driving, playing silly games. The first leg of the drive Hubby and Princess were in the Jeep and me and Belle were in the van. We had a two hour drive to my parents house.
This is where I should tell you more about my weird husband. Awhile back he bought some walky talkies and so on our trip as we’ve been driving we’ve each had one so we can talk to each other. Never mind that we’re paying an arm and a leg for all of us to have cell phones. I guess walky talkies are just more fun. Or manly. Or something.
About an hour into our drive we hit another storm. It was so creepy. Everything went black (it was still daylight out) and the clouds were low and very eerie. And then the rain came. Hard, pouring rain. We had to slow down to about 50 mph and even then you could hardly see two feet in front of you. I was so close to pulling over when it finally let up a little. Let me tell you I was not thinking happy thoughts about my husband. If it wasn’t for his silly Jeep we’d be driving together and I wouldn’t be driving. But I got over that and quit feeling sorry for myself.
We made it to my parents safe and sound and unloaded the few things we needed and went straight to bed. It’d be a long day of driving the next day and who knows what else!
