18 weeks and a hair problem
I had an OB appointment on Monday of this week, I was about 17 1/2 weeks along. Just a normal check-up, nothing too major.
I’ve been gaining about 1 pound a week so total I think I’ve gained about 13 pounds already. A good friend is borrowing me all her maternity clothes and I’m in heaven. All of them fit great and FINALLY I have clothes that I feel comfortable in. I don’t know if they will all fit me when I’m 8-9 months along but for right now I’m feeling good in the clothes department.
I had great blood pressure. Hubby and I have this weird sort of competition about our blood pressure so I happily brag about that! My urine check was good which was a huge praise because I ate like CRUD over the 4th of July weekend – way too many sweets and stuff that was bad for me. I was afraid I’d get chewed out but everything was good.
FINALLY the constipation is better. Sorry to be so brutally honest with ya all. But I’m just so happy. I’ve been trying all sorts of different fiber foods and nothing has helped. Finally it seems that the latest cereal I tried is helping. I think it’s called Fiber One with Honey Clusters. Doctor also said for me to stop taking my pre-natal vitamins which are prescribed with extra iron and just take a regular vitamin.
We’re praying about whether to use the Bradley Method or Lamazze for delivery. Doctor doesn’t have a preference either way. Hubby’s not real sure. And I guess I’m not real sure either. The same friend that borrowed me the maternity clothes used Bradley and couldn’t have enough good things to say about it. Anyone out there familiar with Bradley Method?
Now on to the hair problem. I’ve had long hair for the past 10 years or so although I think I did cut it pretty short once during that time (and hated it). A few weeks ago I cut it about shoulder length but I just don’t like it and I have three issues:
I’m always hot
Therefore I always put it up in a bun or ponytail
And Belle is always pulling it
So I’m thinking I should bite the bullet and cut it short. Not short short like I did before but shorter.
Here’s what it looks like right after I fix it.
It usually stays like this for about 5 minutes and then gets annoying and I put it up. But it’s not long enough to stay up so then it looks like this and gets in my eyes and is really annoying.
(Two observations: Notice the chore chart behind me. Ya, that lasted about 2 days. It’s time to erase that. And secondly, do I not look drugged or something? Goodness sake maybe I need more than a haircut!)
Well all that’s going to change TODAY! I have an appointment at 11:30 today and although I haven’t decided completely for sure I think I’m going shorter. Not short, just shorter. We’ll see. And Hubby doesn’t even know I have an appointment. Hee hee. Hopefully he doesn’t freak too bad! STAY TUNED

If you don’t want to go short-short (which is my style totally), then maybe something just long enough to tuck behind your ears, like a graduated bob??? Can’t wait to see pictures. And chore charts never work for me. I do enjoy making them up, I just never actually DO anything on them.
BTW, you northerners talk funny. I’ve never heard the phrase “borrowing me her clothes” in all my life!

Oh, oh, oh! We used Bradley, and I can’t say enough good things about it! We both felt like it prepared us for birth – me to know what was going to happen and how to handle it and Hubs to know how to help me (which was great!) In my mind the biggest difference between Lamaze and Bradley is that Bradley is more “quiet” – the thought of breathing all funny and having those around me hear me was mortifying to me. There is more to Lamaze than that, but Bradley just seemed more relaxing to me. Also, we took a Bradley class with a couple in their home; it was super informative about pregnancy and what happens during delivery. We also took a hospital class on Lamaze – perhaps it was pared down because it was a hospital class, but we didn’t learn nearly as much that was useful. With all of that said, I will say that parts of our Bradly class were really goofy and made me feel like a big, giant goon – but in my 20-something-th hour of labor I was glad that we had practiced those goofy relaxation techniques so much!
Oh, one really cool thing about Bradley was the emotional markers. There was part of our class that talked about how you can tell how far dilated a woman is by her emotional state; Hubs said it was dead on. He has said that it often proves true of his patients as well (he is a dr.) Again, that was helpful for both of us to know what was going on – me to keep my head about me, and him to know how to help and to know that what I was experiencing normal.
Oh, I totally should have e-mailed all of this. If you want to know more, just shoot me an e-mail! Sorry to be so long-winded!

Lots of sympathy your way on the hair pulling – been there!
I always loved those OB appts – the reassurance that everything was on track.
From what I’ve heard, Bradley was better than Lamaze. Though I took the birthing class nurse’s advice and just focused on relaxing rather than practicing any particular method – that worked for me.

Bradley is the way to go because it also deals with relaxation, emotions and food — which might help you control the pound a week scenario in your first trimester.
A dula is also someone you might want to look into.
