Works for me Wednesday

Issue: Need to go to the grocery store with 19 month old and 5 month old – by yourself – to pick up prescription and a few groceries.

Solution: Stop in snack food isle. Locate 8-pack of individually boxed raisins. Take one box out of pack, open it and give it to 19 month old to snack on. Put the rest of the pack in your cart to purchase. This has given you approximately 13 1/2 minutes to complete your shopping.

When you check out if you get any grief from the cashier for opening the package smile sweetly and say:

“Obviously you have never had to buy groceries with a 19 month old and 5 month old – both of whom are tired, cranky and hungry – by yourself. Please ring up my groceries and we will be on our way. If you would like to see the worlds most amazing temper tantrum take just a few minutes longer and my 19 month old will oblige. Thank you and have a nice day.”

Works For Me Wednesday – Easy Meal To Make With Kids

I think I’ve posted this recipe before but it’s been awhile. Plus it’s so much fun and so yummy I thought I’d share it again. But this time with pictures!

Princess was at a youth retreat this past weekend and she texted me Sunday at about 3:00 pm and asked if we could have mini pizzas for supper sometime this week. I hadn’t planned anything for Sunday night and needed to run to the store anyway so just picked up the few ingredients I didn’t have to make these.

And if any recipe is good to get your kids involved with, it’s this one. Belle, who I’ll remind you is 15 months old, helped me make these as you’ll see from the pictures. Although she got a little sauce on her fingers she did a great job helping and kept saying “good girl” over and over!

Here ya go: Mini Pizzas

ingredients
Refrigerator biscuits, the Grand kind
Pizza sauce
Shredded cheese, we used Colby & Monterey Jack because the store was out of Mozzerella
Pepperoni
Any other toppings you want. We’re a cheese and pepperoni family but anything works!

Open the biscuits and place them on a cutting board or counter.
Squish them out until they are, well I guess I didn’t measure them. They’re about “yay” big, whatever that means. And yes “squish” is an official cooking term.

For our family of 3 1/2 we use one container of biscuits, giving us 8 mini pizzas

Spoon sauce onto each biscuit and spread around.

Take the pepperoni and put 5-6 pieces on each biscuit. That’s Belle’s hand getting all full of sauce. Sorry it’s a little blurry. That little stinker was just too fast with the pepperoni!

Cover each biscuit in shredded cheese. Again, Belle’s hand. She actually did a great job and didn’t spill too much on the floor for the doggies. See, easy peasy for kiddos!

mmm, look at the cookies in the top right hand corner. I ate way too many of those babies!

Ok, back to pizza.

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Cook biscuits for… well I forgot to time it. I’m not so good with this recipe thing am I? I think it was about 15-20 minutes. Until they look like this:

Easy. Kid friendly. Yummy. Definitely works for me!

Works for me Wednesday

I’m glad you stopped by today because this tip is going to rock your world.

Just kidding. If this rocks your world you really need to get out more.

I have to first give a disclaimer that I’ve actually only taken my own advice regarding this tip two times. But the two times I did do it, it worked marvously.

Ok, on to the good stuff….

Anyone else struggle with finding time to blog every single day? Or even every other day? I love to write and spill my guts to complete strangers but who has the time, right?

Well one day I realized that you can schedule posts to publish at a different time (at least on WordPress, not sure about others?).

So once a week I’ll take a few hours to myself and spend that time writing my posts for the coming week. I’ll schedule them all ahead of time so I have a post publishing every day or every other day. And then I’m done blogging for the week. Well, unless you count the many hours spent reading other peoples’ blogs. Then I guess I still have blogging to do but still, half my work is done!

Now I just need to come up with a tip on how to get those few hours to myself!

Don’t forgot to stop by Rocks in My Dryer for other ideas and suggestions.

Works for me Wednesday

It’s been a long time since I’ve participated in WFMW! I have quite a few tips to share with you and as much as I’d love to just share them all in this one post I’ll control myself and save them for future WFMW days.

Today’s tip is probably a no brainer. But for this new mom it was like an ‘AH HA!’ moment when just a few days ago I figured it out.

Cleaning the bathroom. With a 10 month old. Impossible.

Or at least I thought.

Belle is crawling, getting into everything and almost walking and so it’s been pretty difficult lately to get much house cleaning done unless she’s sleeping. Well the other day I realized I could easily clean the bathroom if I put her in the tub while I clean.

You have no idea how amazingly smart I felt when I figured this out. Please do not burst my bubble and tell me you’ve been doing this for years. I’m sure I’m the first one to think of this right!?! Ok, maybe not.

I was a little, well maybe alot, worried about her drowning or something, even though I was right there. So to ease my anxiousness I only put about 2 inches of water in the tub. And then she kept opening the drain so really there was about an inch of water or less most of the time!

I was able to get everything cleaned except my floor. Well, ok I still have to clean the tub because obviously I couldn’t do that with her in it! But I was able to clean our dirty disgusting sink and toilet. Not to mention the dirty disgusting baby got clean too! It was a miraculous moment for me!

Now if only I had a tub in every room, I could get the rest of my house clean!

Head over to Rocks in My Dryer for many great tips! Off to clean my tub!

Works for me Wednesday – Recipe edition

Ya recipes! I’m beginning to enjoy food a little more every day so I was so excited to hear about today’s Works for me Wednesday. Shannon over at Rocks in my Dryer has asked that we submit recipes using 5 ingredients or less. I have lots of those but a few that we have often – probably a little too much – but Hubby loves them so why not! And they are probably no brainer recipes but I’ll share them anyway. Each of these recipes serve about 3-4.

Head over to Rocks in my Dryer for some amazing recipes!

BBQ Pork Sandwiches

1 Pork roast
1 bottle BBQ sauce
1/2 onion, sliced
Buns

Put pork roast, BBQ sauce and onion in crock pot. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Shred with fork and cook another 30 minutes or so. Pile on buns and serve with chips or salad.

Easiest Chicken

3-4 frozen (yes frozen!) chicken breasts-depending on size
1 can cream chicken soup
1 can cream mushroom soup
Seasonings to taste
Rice, cooked

Put chicken and both soups into crock pot. Cook on low for 10-12 hours. Shred chicken about 30 minutes before serving. This will make a very yummy gravy. Serve chicken with gravy over rice.

Round Steak Crock Pot

1-2 pounds round steak, cubed
1 can cream mushroom soup
1 can cream potato soup
Onion, sliced
Egg noodles, cooked or rice, cooked

Put round steak, soups and onion in crock pot. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Serve over noodles or rice.

Enjoy!
