Day: May 9, 2008
Update: NBC just updated their website. The category is now Adopting Moms. If you contacted NBC thanks for making your voice heard!
Have you heard of NBC’s America’s Favorite Mom contest? I had heard of it but obviously didn’t look at it close enough because I just heard from a friend about one of the categories:
The Non-mom Mom for grandmothers, step-moms and adoptive moms.
WHAT!! I’m so mad I can’t even think straight. Talk about insulting. And do not tell me I’m overreacting. After ten years of infertility and then to endure the ups and downs of adoption and to finally hold my baby in my arms I am no less of a mom than someone that gives birth to their child and to say adoptive moms belong in the “non-mom” category is just absolutely the most idiotic thing I’ve heard in a long time and even to have such a category for anyone is ridiculous. (See I can’t think straight and just typed the longest sentence in the history of the world!)
If this bothers you in the least would you mind sending a nice little email to NBC?
And if doesn’t bother you, well obviously you must work at NBC and you’ll be receiving my email very soon.

Is it too early to start wearing maternity clothes? Ok, I know the answer to that. The little (“little” ha ha) tummy that I have has nothing to do with little Pip and much more to do with Jimmy Johns and so it’s probably not right to pretend to have a baby bump when all I have so far is a excessive amount of eating bump. But I’m so excited to wear maternity clothes. I read in one of my books that by month 5 (that’s 20 weeks) that I’ll finally start to show. Ya, ok…I think this mama is gonna be showing alot sooner than that.
I’m actually feeling pretty good. The nausea is way better. At first it kind of freaked me out, thinking something was wrong but I’m still having all the other symptoms…peeing all the time, breast tenderness, tired. And the headaches have started which isn’t too fun. Thankfully they aren’t lasting all day or anything. While the nausea has improved my super duper smeller of a nose hasn’t. Eww, I can smell things a mile away that I really don’t want to smell. That’s so fun. But overall I’m feeling really good which I’m very thankful for!
I didn’t give many details about my ob appointment earlier this week so I suppose I can share that with ya. I know you’re dying to know what my cervix was like.
Well according to Mr Doctor it’s just fine and it looked wonderful! He said that I don’t have some type of fringy thing on my cervix so I probably won’t spot at all. Uh, ok. He said I’m carrying the baby low. Will that make me look thin? He measured my pelvic bones and said that I should (should?) be able to deliver vaginally. That hurts, just thinking about it! Surprisingly he was able to feel my ovaries. I say surprisingly because last Fall when I did a whole round of tests and stuff the obgyn couldn’t feel anything on my left side cuz it was so embedded in scar tissue. The good Lord has seen fit to unembed my ovaries and I think that’s fabulous!
Now that you know all you could ever want to know about my innards I’m going to stop. I’m glad we could bond in this way! Maybe I’ll video the birth and post it on here. Uh, no thank you!
On to the good stuff. What is little Pip doing this week? He’s such a busy little beaver I can’t believe it. And I’m so proud of him. It’s gotta be hard work doing all this growing! I actually thought I felt a little flutter on Wednesday but it was probably just gas because I think it’s too early for me to feel anything! 🙂
* Baby has begun movement – While still too small for you to feel (see, just gas), your little one is wriggling, shifting, and dancing already! Makes you almost wish for a window to peek in whenever you want!
* Most joints are formed now – and trust that your little one is practicing bending and flexing.
* Baby will curve its fingers around an object placed in the palm of its hand – This is amazing to see! At only nine weeks, if you happen to have an ultrasound, you may observe your infant fascinated by everything he or she can lay their fingers on (mainly other fingers, toes, ears and nose!
* Fingerprints are already evident in the skin
* Average size this week — length 0.9 inch (2.3cm), weight 0.07 ounce (2gm)
Doesn’t he sound just so cute!?! Already dancing even?!? Anna, your little Mini’s going to have a run for her money for Harvard…or Yale!?! 🙂
And stay tuned. We learned on Wednesday at Angel’s 6 month check-up that she’s the smartest 6 month old in the world!
