Is it stealing if you’re stupid?

Posted on Updated on

It was another busy tiring day yesterday.

My dad had back surgery scheduled for 1:30 pm. Angel spent the morning with my mom at the hospital while Caleb went to Grama Barb’s house. I made it up to the hospital at around 11:00 and was greeted by the most tired cranky little girl that ever lived. Oh my word. She was so tired. But of course she didn’t want to just sit and rest. She wanted to walk. And then cry. And then lay down in the middle of the floor in the hallway. And then cry. And then be held. And then get down. And then walk. And then cry. And then lay down in the middle of the floor in the hallway.

Pat was coming up around noon to pick her up and take her to Grama Barb’s so she could take a nap. Well at about 11:30 they decided to move dad to a different room – not sure why – and then at the same time OR came and wanted to take him to surgery prep. It was kinda crazy for awhile. Nurses scrambling. Angel crying. My dad in severe pain wishing he’d wake up from this nightmare!

The worst part of the day was when Pat got to the hospital. Angel did not want to leave. It was awful. She kicked and screamed and cried. I felt so bad but I knew she needed to go to Grama’s and take a nap. Even after they left and were a block away I could still hear her screaming.

The next 5 hours or so involved alot of waiting and hospital staff switching us to different rooms. It also involved stealing from Sonic – but I’ll get to that in a second. My dad came through his surgery great. He ended up staying overnight in the hospital and went home this morning. We spend most of the evening at the hospital last night trying to convince Angel not to scream as she ran through the halls.

So back to Sonic – yesterday we were waiting to see my dad after surgery and so me and my sister went to pick up the babies from Grama Barb’s. Before heading back to the hospital we stopped at Sonic and ordered a few drinks along with chili cheese tots. They brought us our order except they brought us a chili cheese dog instead of tots. I let them know and they were very gracious and said they’ll bring us our tots, which they do a few minutes later.

Only they brought us a chili cheese dog AGAIN! Or not.

Turns out they put the chili cheese tots in a footlong hot dog bag. Well isn’t that special.  It wasn’t until we were half way back to the hospital that we realized the mistake we made.  So not only are we stupid, we are thieves.

But wait. It gets better. Today on my way home for lunch I decided to stop and get my sister a Diet Cherry Limeade because she is at my house watching the babies. I also figured I would let them know about our thievery and pay for the extra chili cheese tots. I tell the nice lady who I think was a manager and she said it happens all the time and that no I don’t have to pay for them. Well ok, I feel better.

She hands me the drinks and I hand her my debit card. A few seconds later she opens the window back up and says the card is declined and asked if I have another.  Not only do I not have another card but I have no cash.  I start to hand her the drinks and she tells me to keep them and that they are on her.  But that I have to promise to return to Sonic. I say ok but I can guarantee you I will not be showing my face at that Sonic for quite a long time.

So in conclusion.

An extra order of chili cheese tots = $0

Two limeades = $0

The story the Sonic worker is going to tell about the stupid customer = priceless

Things happen, do not be embarrassed. DO go back sometime, and hopefully that manager will be working, and you can pay for the drinks. 🙂

awww Missy! I think we all have those moments – but you definitely need to tell all your local friends & family about that Sonic (and their great staff) so that they will go back, even if you don’t want to show your face!! 🙂 Keep us posted on your dad! Still praying!
