Pat and I had a mini-vacation this weekend without the babies. It was the first time we’ve gone anywhere without them and so it was really weird. Bad weird because we really missed them and it just didn’t seem right not to have them with us. But good weird because we had a great time.
We got to the Cities around noon on Friday. We met up with Princess and Prankster for a few hours and did a little shopping at a really neat consignment shop (Buffalo Exchange). I had promised myself I wouldn’t shop until I was at my goal weight but finding a pair of jeans 2 sizes smaller than what I normally wear and fitting into medium shirts was just too exciting. Plus it’s motivation to keep going! Anyway, after shopping we ate lunch at Popeye’s. Actually I think we at lunch first because we were starving. I know Popeye’s isn’t exactly your most healthliest place to eat but we don’t have one in our town and Pat was very excited to eat at one. It was good too. Unfortunately a little too good and an indication of our eating habits for the rest of the weekend.
So much for those smaller jeans and shirts!
After lunch and shopping we ditched Princess and Prankster and checked into our hotel. It was the sweetest hotel ever. And within two blocks of the Twins stadium. First things first, we took pictures. And then had to try out the tv in the bathrooom. And then I had to go through the wet bar and try to convince Pat (uncessfully) to let me buy something.
(Our view from our hotel.)
We had a few hours to kill before the game so we decided to go down to the health club and go for a run. It’s doing things like this that are very strange because normally we can’t do things like this because of the kiddos. Usually one of us exercises and then the other exercises. So to do it together was once again weird. But fun weird.
Pat was insistent that we get to the game 1 1/2 hours early and since it was his first professional baseball game I decided to go ahead with that plan. It was a little chilly out and so we bundled up and walked downtown a little bit before heading to the stadium. We are now officially Twins fans. The game was amazing.
First of all we had great seats. We were in what’s called The Legends section. We were in the first row of this section, right down the 3rd base line. There’s an indoor section where all the food is and so I could sneak in there when it got too cold for me. There was tons of food vendors and even some very fancy ones. It was all so fun because this isn’t normally something we could afford. Thanks to Pat’s years of service at his job most of it was paid for by his employer.
The game itself was a great game. The Twins won but it was a close game and had many exciting moments. The best part of the game was the National Anthem. I cried as the young lady sang along to the guitar and the former Marine raised the flag with tears streaming down his face. At “and the rockets red glare…” they shot off fireworks and it was so amazing.
(I love this picture!)
The next day we met up with Princess and Prankster and finally got to see their apartment. Which, I cannot believe, I forgot to take a picture of. It is so cute. Princess has decorated it so nice and unique, just like her style. After seeing their apartment and unloading our stuff we walked around the campus of U of M where they both go to school. Wow, that was exhausting. We ended up walking for over an hour and 1/2 and it was alot of fun to see the campus.
(Aren’t they cute?)
For lunch we wanted to try something different and boy did we find different. I think Prankster found it online, the restaurant was called The Weinery. It was this tiny tiny dive that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in 30 years. The food (burgers, hot dogs and fries) was good and thankfully none of us got sick, although I think I was the only one worried about that. The others seemed to think it was an adventure, which I guess that was true.
After lunch we went back to the apartment and the guys crashed. Princess and I went out for tea/water a little while later and splurged and had cupcakes! It was so nice to finally have some time just us to visit. We got back to the apartment and the guys were till sleeping! After convincing them to wake up we went on another adventure to a few bike shops close to their place. And then visited a book store. We then had to decide on supper and ended up deciding on chinese food and eating in. We watched a movie and went to bed pretty early.
Sunday morning we got up early and got on the road. We had 3 1/2 hours to drive to our town and then another hour to go pick up the babies. We were so excited to get our babies and get home! Time went quickly though because we worked on a crossword puzzle and when we needed a break from that we surfed through the radio stations.
The one bad thing about the weekend? Our eating. Not only did we not keep track of our calories but we had absolutely no discipline. We used the game as an excuse for Friday night and that just kind flowed into Saturday and Sunday. We ate more sweets and fried foods in those 3 days than we have in the past month! So it’s been a little difficult yesterday and today get back into the swing of things.
We are so thankful for the time we had to take this little trip. We made tons of memories and look forward to our next visit to Princess and Prankster. Except this time we’re hauling the kiddos along with us!
