We had our first outdoor adventure this week. “Outdoor adventures” is part of our new schedule. Not to be confused with just normal outside play time. I realize that every time we do anything it should be an adventure but I need baby steps.
After picking Angel up from school on Tuesday we grabbed some lunch and then headed out to the goose park. It’s a park on the outskirts of our town with geese, ducks and walking trails.
And I was hoping, lots of other little creatures that would make this first outdoor adventure adventurous.
The good Lord came through for me and we saw, touched, stomped and chased many little critters.
First off we got chased by those mean old geese. They just don’t seem to like us. We skipped hanging out with the geese and ducks and
ran walked to the trails instead. It’s at least a 1.5 mile loop around this little pasture area.
Besides the ducks and geese, here’s a list of adventurous things we saw:
A nice swan, yet to be named
Crickets, lots and lots of crickets
Soft fuzzy caterpillar
Prickly fuzzy caterpillar
Millipede (I think.)
Spider carrying off a dead bug
Snake. Oh yes we did. And my
naughty curious kids even poked it with a stick.
And some pictures:
Trying to catch crickets…
A “pirate chain”!
The soft fuzzy caterpillar…
Searching. I couldn’t catch him doing it on camera but he would put is hand up above his eyes like he was “searching”.
A very nice swan who seemed to enjoy our company…
My little big boy…
“PLEASE can you just sit down for 3 seconds so I can take a picture.” See, baby steps.
The snake! The kids (and their mama) totally freaked out. And then they (the kids) chased it and poked it with a stick until it slithered away and hid inside some tree bark.
Our first Outdoor Adventure was such a blessing. And when Daddy asked about our day later on at the supper table Angel exclaimed, “WE HAD AN OUTDOOR ADVENTURE!” Looking forward to many more!
