It’s so crazy, this week in June. There are so many memories of experiencing the loss of Mom and Dad and it’s so different for all of us.
We all have a different day that we last saw Mom and Dad or talked to them. Those days we don’t talk about much, but they are a special memory for each of us.
June 9th was the day that Mom and Dad passed in to the arms of Jesus. Except that we didn’t know it.
It’s a little confusing to know what day to remember. The day that they went to be with Jesus? Or the day we found them? Of course we remember both of them.
The day we found them was June 12th, and for me personally, that day is the hardest of them all. The details of that dreadful day are etched in my mind. And I’m sure they always will be.
June 13th was the day we told Jim and Leana. They were on a plane on their way back from South Africa on June 12th. June 13th was when we were finally all together. Except that we were alone now.
June 17th was Father’s Day. It was also the day we celebrated the life of Mom and Dad. We had a beautiful service at Cedar Shores Resort. All of our family and so many friends were there to celebrate with us. To grieve with us and question and wonder and trust that God’s ways are higher and wiser than our ways.
It’s been two years since that week in June. It feels like a lifetime. And it feels like yesterday.
Life goes on and healing continues and questions aren’t answered. We continue to trust that God’s ways are higher and wiser. We continue to rely on the strength of God’s love and the promises of His word.
What burden are you carrying today?
Perhaps you too are grieving the loss of a loved one. The loss of a broken relationship. The challenges of being a mom or dad. The challenges of being a spouse.
Whatever you are facing today, I want to encourage you and tell you that Jesus loves you. He is walking with you and He knows your pain, your heartache, your questions, your fears.
Oh if it weren’t for the love of God, I don’t know where I would be today. Through our pain and despair, through our sin and rebellion, God’s love remains constant.

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
